Meet Alicia O.

Alicia O.

Growing up, Alicia always dreamed of learning to swim, but her parents never took her to classes, leaving her feeling excluded from many activities. Surprisingly, she learned to swim in college, where she was a challenging student herself. With a strong dislike for getting water in her eyes and a fear of putting her head under the water, she struggled to trust her instructor to help her float. Yet, her determination helped her conquer those fears. Once she learned to swim, she fell in love with it and mastered proper strokes, igniting a passion for teaching.

In 2007, Alicia purchased Lucky Duck Swim School, deepening her love for swimming and education. After teaching for two years, she began running the “Baby and Me” class in 2009, creating a safe and fun environment for families with babies. After seven years of dedicated teaching, she passed the “Baby and Me” position to others who shared her passion for early childhood water education.

In 2014, Alicia began working alongside the pre-competitive swim team coach and became a certified USA Swimming coach in 2019. Since then, she has dedicated herself to competitive swimming, helping her athletes qualify for CIF and state championships, as well as various age group championships.

Alicia’s expertise extends to teaching water safety skills to infants and adults alike, guiding them to overcome their fears of the water. At Lucky Duck Swim School, she is passionate and patient, always challenging her swimmers to be the best they can be. Her own experiences help her connect with students, especially those who may be scared, making her a compassionate and understanding instructor.
